BABS1201 - Cells, Molecules and Genes

Biology

Modern biology is the study of the living world; we need to understand the relationships among levels of organisations

  • Interaction among organic molecules
  • Interaction among cells in organs
  • Interaction among organ systems in an organism
  • Interaction between organisms and the environment
  • Interaction among individuals in a population
  • Interaction among species in a biological communities

Biology is about scientific fact. Evolution is a scientific fact, but it does not explain the origins of life. We do not believe in evolution, we know that it is true.

Darwin's Four Postulates **Examinable

  • Individuals within a species are variable
  • Some of these variations are passed onto their offspring
  • In every generation more offspring are produced than can survive
  • (therefore) Survival and reproduction are not random
